Today’s the Day!
It’s the last market of the year and we have a huge line up of vendors for you. Lisa has been baking her heart out and we think you’ll be happy with what she’s offering for hot food this evening.
Google maps will bring you right to the door if you can use it as your GPS.
These are just a few things you’ll find at our booth. Come hungry!
I’m pretty excited about this new tea blend from Lisa. I think everyone should be excited about it. If you know, you know.
An extra day off for the farmer
I lucked out and got put on-call at my hospital job on one of the last warm days. You can bet I made good use of it. Ellie now has a dry, safe place to go when the winter winds start blowing in and freezing rain is falling. Someone asked me if I enjoyed my extra day off. Yes…Yes I did.
Kitchen House Update
The septic tank has been installed! Next up, the main water line installation. We’ll be renting the ditch trencher and laying the water line ourselves, thanks to the great turn-out for Ghosties and Goodies.
We’re struggling to find a licensed electrician but other than that we’re checking off projects, slowly. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
A late fall walk
Just before the really cold weather kicked in, we took a walk in the holler and I spotted a cluster of mushrooms under the hill. I don’t know mushrooms as well as Lisa, so I always point them out, quite proudly, because my head is usually running at full speed with to-do lists. I’m barely aware of anything else around me. Thats why I love walks in the holler or short hikes behind the house.
I convinced her to give me a quick, on-the-spot, oyster mushroom lesson and thought I’d share it.
For the record, don’t eat mushrooms you find unless you’re absolutely positive of what they are…or have a wife who knows for sure.
From the Goat Yard
The goats are still doing good together. They’ve relaxed with Hatchet and baby goat (Sissy Goat, who my wife was not supposed to name). Hatchet continues to gain weight and, aside from being a tad bit too skinny, is acting like his normal goaty self. Lucille and Sage have both had dates with Jasper, so we’re hoping for healthy babies in the spring and all the wonderful goat’s milk we can work with.
Jasper was not happy about the move. Hatchet and Sissy Goat were his neighbors. He broke out of the barn and decided to come see Lisa and the house he grew up in. Being a big ole boy goat in rut meant Lisa was not as glad to see him as he was to see her. Boy goats stink, bad, in case you didn’t know. Lisa knows, very well.
We hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. While we don’t celebrate the origin of this holiday, we do use it to remind ourselves to take time to think back on everything we have to be thankful for. This year that list is so long. From paying taxes on this farm for the first time with only our names on the bill, yes, I’m thankful to pay taxes, to our grandson making an amazing recovery from a traumatic brain injury, building this business together from our little farmers market start to all the wonderful opportunities and experiences we’ve had. Our hearts are full of gratitude and these acres really are full of grace. It’s been a hard year in so many ways, but it has been an amazing one at the same time.
We hope to see you at the market this afternoon and that you continue to follow us into the new year.
Small Business Saturday
Whether it’s with us or somewhere else, go out and support small businesses today. It’ll mean more than you could imagine for them.
